The boys’ varsity basketball team won 17 games this year (3 losses), which is the third best record in school history and the best record since joining the GMC in 2008.
Darin Harris, JD Sprague, and Michael Van Kleunen all finished the regular season in the top 10 in scoring (GMC) Harris: 16.0 ppg, Sprague: 14.7 ppg, Van Kleunen: 12.5 ppg.
Mason finished their out-of-conference schedule undefeated. (6-0)
Senior Tim Reale ended the season 2nd in the GMC in assists with 4.2 assists a game.
The Comets dished out a GMC best 329 assists this year, which was a 100 better than the 2nd place Lakota West.
Mason was first in the GMC in points allowed as they only gave up an average of 47.6 points a game.
The Comets defeated the defending state champions and top team in the city, the LaSale Lancers, by 7 points (54-47)
In the 17 wins this season, the Comets won by an average of 16.4 points.
JD Sprague’s 28 points in the 66-55 win over Middletown was the most points scored by a Mason player this season.
Mason has a 5-7 record in post season games since 2005. With the playoffs starting Tuesday, February 28th, let’s see how they respond.
